Koh Phangan

Right after our little adventure in Bangkok my boyfriend and I headed to Koh Samui and then took a ferry to Koh Phangan. We had booked a bungalow with beach view at the Cookie Salad resort, right by the Haad Salad beach. After getting up at three in the morning and traveling for hours we arrived at the resort at about noon.

I can highly recommend the Cookie Salad resort, as well as Haad salad beach. It’s a rather calm and relaxed atmosphere and you can’t really party here, but there are lots of restaurants, some bars and some cool daytime activities like scuba diving, kayaking and boat tours around the island.

On our second day we went scuba diving and even though the water at Haad salad beach is very shallow at some points you can still see lots of fish. It’s definitely worth it. My boyfriend and I also rented a kayak and paddled from the start of the beach to the end. It was very relaxing, but if you’re deciding to go on a boat or kayak trip in the noon, don’t forget to protect your head from the sun and use sunscreen. Lastly we rented a surfboard and did some stand up paddling in the evening. Well, my boyfriend stood up and I sat at the front of the surfbroad and did nothing. I’m not really good at balancing, so I think it was best that he did all the work. We watched the sun set and I can highly recommend renting a surfboard and just chilling on the sea, when the sun goes down – it’s simply breathtaking.

So if you’re planning your next trip to an island, definitely consider Koh Phangan and the Cookie Salad resort

I was born in Bangkok, but never been there, until now. My boyfriend and I had planned this trip to Thailand for months and we knew that our first stop had to be Bangkok. Luckily a good friend of ours just opened his hostel and he was too kind and let us stay there for the first two weeks. The name is ‘Ora hostel‘ and it’s right by a BTS station, so you can get to most places by sky train. Check it out, if you’re staying in Bangkok.

We arrived at the Suvarnabhumi airport at about half-past seven on a Tuesday. On our first evening we went to Kaohsan road, a popular walking street for Tourists. We just strolled around, had a few drinks and tried Rotee, a delicious Thai desert, similar to a crêpes, but ten times better.

On our second day we went to the Siam Paragon Mall and visited the Sea World there. After that we visited the MBK mall, which has a broad selection of fake clothing, accessories and make-up items. So, if you want to purchase any fake goods in Bangkok I would recommend MBK or the Platinum Mall, which we visited in our second week. In the evening our friend took us to the Octave rooftop bar, with an amazing view over the modern part of Bangkok. They also have good cocktails, a thai-style Mojito for example, so if you visit Bangkok you can find the Octave bar on top of the Marriott hotel.

We also had a stroll through China town at daytime, as well as at night time. During the day you can get all sorts of things in little shops there and in the evening it transforms into a food heaven. Lots of Thais, as well as foreigners come here to eat something at night.

After our daytime visit in China town we went to Chatuchak “JJ” Green in the evening. It’s a little night market, where you can get cool and affordable clothing, shoes and accessories. You can find vintage band shirts here, as well as the shops of young designers.

In the second week we went to the Grand palace and looked at the temples, the palace it self was closed due to the funeral of the late king Bhumibol Adulyadej. After visiting this impressive sight, we went to Wat Pho, home of the giant declining Buddha. I think I’ve never seen so much gold at one place. If you want to do some sightseeing in Bangkok, I would highly recommend coming to the Grand palace and Wat Pho. There are also a lot of other temples in Bangkok, but we didn’t have time to visit all of them.

On our last day in Bangkok we also visited the Chatuchak “JJ” weekend market. It had a very nice selection of clothes and accessories from young designers for affordable prices and also a large selection of souvenirs.

Our time in Bangkok has ended now. Next stop: Koh Phangan and Koh Tao
Hope you liked my impressions of Bangkok!
